UFO Mission Statement
The University Film Organization is a student organization committed to creating and sustaining a vibrant and thriving film community on the BGSU campus. We are dedicated to being a source for all students interested in film on any level who want to develop professional and social relationships based on their interest in film. We also seek to provide a forum for those students interested in creating and showcasing their own film or video projects, so that the artistic and professional attributes of our members can be seen by the public both inside and outside of BGSU. In short, we provide service, support, and community to all students who share an interest in the art of film, and nurture the rapidly growing film and arts community on campus.
Weekly Meetings
The University Film Organization holds weekly meetings every Thursday at 9:00 pm in room 363 of the Education Building. Meetings are open for anyone to attend, so it is not just limited to film majors or even to "members" (although, if you'd like to join our email list, we'd be happy to oblige!).
Meetings provide the main in-person forum that allows students to get to know one another and interact. They are also usually the first place to hear about upcoming events and opportunities. Often, they are built around the officers giving a detailed and fun look into various film topics. Subjects in the past have ranged from the evolution of the Godzilla franchise to apps available to shoot a professional film entirely on a smartphone. These presentations also open up to questions and discussions. We love nothing more than to get a dialogue going about cinema!
Of course, the officers don't like to filibuster every week. If you have a topic in film that you are passionate about and would like to share with the rest of the organization, tell an officer! It is always a pleasure to have a special guest presentation from one of our members!

Membership
Within the University Film Organization, membership policy is not overly strict, but that does not make it any less important. In order to be considered a "member" of the organization for a given academic year, one must attend three general meetings. Being listed as a member affords you the privilege of checking out BGReel equipment, voting in our spring officer elections, or even running for an officer position. That said, there are no dues or initiations involved in gaining membership. It is entirely based on attendance.
BGReel Productions
In reality, the University Film Organization represents only half of the equation. Our sister organization, BGReel, is an integral part of the community and our efforts. BGReel represents the production side of filmmaking. They offer equipment that is available for check-out as well as a forum near the end of Thursday meetings for students to pitch film ideas and to announce productions so that they can get in touch with other members of the community and join their crew.
The most important thing to stress about BGReel, though, is that they are the same thing as UFO. We are one group with the power of two. Our events are their events and vice-versa. We have the same email list. We have the same Facebook page. You cannot be a member of one or the other. Everything we do is a collaboration with them, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
